What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose of Westhroid?

If you forget to take your Westhroid dose, take your missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose. Each time you get your blood tests to monitor your thyroid function, be sure to tell your healthcare provider if you have missed any doses, as this may affect any dose adjustments.

Strengths of Westhroid

Westhroid tablets come in the following strengths:

  • Westhroid ½ grain (32.5 mg)
  • Westhroid 1 grain (65 mg)
  • Westhroid 2 grain (130 mg).

You may notice that similar thyroid USP products have different milligram strengths. For instance, Armour® Thyroid 1 grain tablets contain 60 mg, while Westhroid 1 grain tablets contain 65 mg. A grain is an outdated measurement, and there is no consistent agreement as to exactly how many milligrams are in a grain.

Is There a Generic Version of Westhroid?

Currently, there are generic versions of thyroid USP available, although there is no way to know if they are really equivalent to Westhroid, since none of these products are approved by the FDA.
