Synthroid® is licensed to help boost thyroid hormone levels in people who have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) or other thyroid problems. Even though it is synthetic, Synthroid is identical to the naturally occurring hormone levothyroxine (also known as T4). Prior to taking Synthroid, tell your healthcare provider about any medical conditions you may have, such as heart problems, diabetes, or osteoporosis.
