Drug Interactions With Saxagliptin
A number of medications may cause saxagliptin drug interactions, including nefazodone, sulfonylureas, certain protease inhibitors, and certain antibiotics or antifungals. Many of these drugs can increase the level of the diabetes medicine in the blood. In order to counteract these drug interactions, your healthcare provider may need to reduce your diabetes medication dosage.
An Overview of Saxagliptin Interactions
Saxagliptin (Onglyza™) can potentially interact with several other medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions with saxagliptin include:
- Certain antibiotics or antifungal medications, including:
- Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
- Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
- Telithromycin (Ketek®)
- Certain protease inhibitors, including:
- Atazanavir (Reyataz®)
- Indinavir (Crixivan®)
- Lopinavir and ritonavir (Kaletra®)
- Nelfinavir (Viracept®)
- Ritonavir (Norvir®)
- Saquinavir (Fortovase®, Invirase®)
- Nefazodone (Serzone®)
- Sulfonylureas, such as:
