Side Effects of Repaglinide and Metformin
Common side effects of repaglinide and metformin include headaches, diarrhea, and nausea. These side effects, however, tend to be minor and are usually easy to treat by you or your healthcare provider. Although most people tolerate the medication without problems, there are serious side effects that can occur. If you experience side effects such as signs of an allergic reaction or symptoms of high or low blood sugar, you should report them to your healthcare provider.
An Introduction to Side Effects of Repaglinide and Metformin
As with any medicine, repaglinide and metformin (PrandiMet™) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in many cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with repaglinide and metformin. Side Effects of Repaglinide and Metformin to Report
There are a number of side effects with repaglinide and metformin that you should report to your healthcare provider. These include, but are not limited to:- Symptoms of high blood sugar (which is a side effect only if repaglinide and metformin does not adequately control your blood sugar), including:
- Increased hunger
- Increased thirst
- Increased urination
- Blurred vision
- Fatigue
- Shortness of breath
- Nausea or vomiting
- Symptoms of low blood sugar, including:
- Sweating
- Shakiness
- Extreme hunger
- Dizziness
- Cold sweats
- Blurry vision
- Changes in behavior, such as irritability
- Loss of coordination
- Difficulty speaking
- Confusion
- Signs of lactic acidosis, a dangerous side effect of metformin (see Metformin and Lactic Acidosis), such as:
- Feeling tired or weak
- Muscle pain
- Trouble breathing
- Abdominal pain (stomach pain)
- Feeling cold
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- A slow or irregular heartbeat
- Signs of an allergic reaction, including:
- An unexplained rash
- Hives
- Itching
- Unexplained swelling,
- Wheezing or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
