Repaglinide and Metformin Interactions Explained
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when
repaglinide and metformin is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Amiloride or Amiloride-HCTZ
Theoretically,
amiloride may affect the ability of the kidneys to filter
metformin (one of the components of
repaglinide and metformin) from the blood, possibly leading to high levels of metformin. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely if you take these medications together.
Atazanavir
Taking repaglinide and metformin with
atazanavir can significantly increase the level of repaglinide (one of the components of repaglinide and metformin) in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects (especially dangerously low blood sugar). Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these two medications together.
Certain Antibiotics or Antifungals
Taking repaglinide and metformin with certain antibiotics or antifungals can increase the level of repaglinide and metformin in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to lower your dose of repaglinide and metformin while you are taking antibiotics or antifungals. You should not take repaglinide and metformin if you are also taking itraconazole and
gemfibrozil (a
cholesterol medication), as it could cause dangerously high levels of repaglinide and metformin in the blood.
Cimetidine
Cimetidine may affect the ability of the kidneys to filter metformin (one of the components of repaglinide and metformin) from the blood, possibly leading to high levels of metformin. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely if you take these medications together.
