Endocrine System Home > Novolin N Side Effects

Injection site skin reactions, changes in blood sugar levels, and skin pitting at the injection site are side effects are some of the possible side effects of Novolin N. In most cases, side effects of the medication either do not require medical attention or can be treated easily. It is important, however, to report any serious Novolin N side effects signs (such as dizziness, sweating, or other signs of low blood sugar) to your healthcare provider immediately.

An Introduction to Novolin N Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Novolin® N (NPH insulin). However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, many people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, they are often minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. However, very serious side effects can occur, especially if you take too much Novolin N.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Novolin N. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Novolin N side effects with you.)

Possible Side Effects of Novolin N

Because Novolin N is a non-prescription medication, little information is available about its possible side effects. Detailed side effect data is provided for prescription medications, but such data is not given for non-prescription medications. However, vague information is available and suggests that possible side effects of Novolin N include:

  • Skin thickening or pitting at the site of the injection
  • A skin reaction (such as redness, pain, or swelling) at the site of the injection
  • High blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia) if too little is taken
  • Low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) if too much is taken.
