Endocrine System Home > Information on Insulin Aspart

Available by prescription only, insulin aspart (NovoLog®) is a drug used for the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. As a rapid-acting form of insulin, it helps control the spike in blood sugar that occurs after meals. It is typically used in combination with a long-acting insulin. Insulin aspart is typically injected just under the skin before a meal (within 5 to 10 minutes), but it can also be used in an insulin pump or given intravenously (by IV).

Because not everyone should use insulin aspart, the drug information for this product should be reviewed with your healthcare provider before beginning treatment. For example, your healthcare provider needs to know if you are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant. You should also provide a list of all medications and supplements you are taking.
