Precautions and Warnings With Linagliptin

Specific Linagliptin Precautions and Warnings

Some warnings and precautions to be aware of prior to taking this diabetes medicine include the following:
  • Linagliptin should not be used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, as it is not effective for treating these conditions.
  • Combining linagliptin with sulfonylureas increases the risk of low blood sugar levels. Your healthcare provider may need to lower the dosage of your sulfonylurea. Sulfonylureas include:
  • Linagliptin is a pregnancy Category B medication. This means that it may not be safe for use during pregnancy, although the full risks are currently unknown. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking linagliptin during pregnancy (see Tradjenta and Pregnancy).
