  • Low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia)
  • A skin reaction at the injection site
  • Skin thickening or pitting at the injection site
  • Weight gain (although studies suggest that people may gain less weight with insulin detemir, compared to those using NPH insulin or Lantus).
