Best Diet for Hypothyroidism

There is no diet that is best for people with hypothyroidism. Rather, the best thing that people with this condition can do is eat a diet that is well balanced. Tips for healthy eating include adding more fresh fruits and vegetables to your meals, consuming low-fat or fat-free dairy products, and minimizing your intake of alcohol.
While research has shown that no foods can improve or worsen hypothyroidism, too much dietary fiber is not the best thing for people with this condition. In addition, some foods, such as walnuts and cottonseed meal, can affect how the body absorbs thyroid medications. These foods should be consumed at least four hours before or after you take your medicines.
