An Introduction to Humalog Mix75/25 Side Effects
Just like any medicine,
Humalog® Mix75/25 (
insulin lispro protamine/insulin lispro) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, many people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, they are often minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider. However, serious side effects may also occur.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Humalog Mix75/25. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Humalog Mix75/25 side effects with you.)
Possible Side Effects With Humalog Mix75/25
Possible side effects of all
insulins, including Humalog Mix75/25, include:
- A skin reaction at the injection site (such as redness, itching, or a temporary lump)
- Skin thickening at the injection site
- Skin pitting at the injection site
- Low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia).
Rapid-acting insulins (such as the one in Humalog Mix75/25) are more likely to cause low blood sugar levels, compared to long-acting or even short-acting insulins. This is why it is so important to start eating within 15 minutes of a dose of Humalog Mix75/25. Not eating or waiting too long to eat increases the risk of experiencing dangerously low blood sugar levels.
