Drug Interactions With Glyburide and Metformin

Corticosteroids
Taking glyburide and metformin with corticosteroids can make glyburide and metformin less effective, increasing your chance of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). If you are taking glyburide and metformin with a corticosteroid, you may need to be monitored more closely, and your healthcare provider may need to adjust your glyburide and metformin dose -- especially when you are starting or stopping a corticosteroid.

Diuretics
Taking glyburide and metformin with diuretics can make glyburide and metformin less effective, increasing your chance of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). If you are taking glyburide and metformin with a diuretic, you may need to be monitored more closely, and your healthcare provider may need to adjust your glyburide and metformin dose -- especially when you are starting or stopping a diuretic.

Taking glyburide and metformin with furosemide (a diuretic) can affect the levels of both furosemide and glyburide and metformin in your blood. This may increase your risk of glyburide and metformin side effects and may make furosemide less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your doses of these medications.

Estrogens
Taking glyburide and metformin with estrogens can make glyburide and metformin less effective, increasing your chance of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). If you are taking glyburide and metformin with an estrogen, you may need to be monitored more closely, and your healthcare provider may need to adjust your glyburide and metformin dose -- especially when you are starting or stopping an estrogen.

Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics
Taking glyburide and metformin with fluoroquinolones can increase your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). If you are taking glyburide and metformin with a fluoroquinolone, you may need to be monitored more closely, and your healthcare provider may need to adjust your glyburide and metformin dose -- especially when you are starting or stopping a fluoroquinolone.
