Glucophage® (metformin) is a medication approved to control blood sugar levels in people who have type 2 diabetes. This prescription medication works by lowering the amount of sugar produced by the liver and by decreasing the amount of sugar the body absorbs. This medication comes in tablet form and is typically taken one to three times a day. Prior to taking Glucophage, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about your medical history and any other medicines you are taking, including vitamins and herbal supplements.
