What If I Overdose on the Medication?
People who take too much
Glucophage XR may have overdose symptoms that could include:
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) (see Metformin and Blood Sugar)
- Lactic acidosis (see Metformin and Lactic Acidosis)
- Fainting
- Shakiness
- Fast heartbeat (tachycardia)
- Confusion
- Sweating
- Muscle pain
- Trouble breathing
- Abdominal pain (stomach pain)
- Feeling cold
- Dizziness
- Slow or irregular heartbeat.
If you happen to overdose on this drug, seek immediate medical attention.
Glucophage XR should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture or heat. The tablets should be kept in an airtight container.
Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose?
If you do not take your Glucophage XR as scheduled, take your missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.

Glucophage XR tablets are available in two strengths:
- Glucophage XR 500 mg
- Glucophage XR 750 mg.
Fortamet tablets (another brand of long-acting Glucophage) are available in the following strengths:
- Fortamet 500 mg
- Fortamet 1000 mg.
Glumetza tablets (yet another brand of long-acting Glucophage) is available in the following strengths:
- Glumetza 500 mg
- Glumetza 1000 mg.
