Glucagon is a drug used to treat severe low blood sugar. In some cases, it is also used to slow down the digestive tract for certain diagnostic tests. This potentially lifesaving drug is sold as a few different brand-name products, including the GlucaGen® HypoKit®.
The GlucaGen HypoKit contains everything needed to prepare and give an injection of glucagon. It is made by Novo Nordisk, Inc. The medication is almost always injected just under the skin, and it can take between 5 and 45 minutes for the maximum results to be felt.
Although it is generally well tolerated, side effects may include things such as:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Changes in blood pressure.
(Click GlucaGen for more information on the GlucaGen HypoKit, including how it works, when to administer it, and why it may not be right for everyone.)
