Drug Interactions With Exenatide

Lovastatin (Mevacor)
Taking exenatide with lovastatin can decrease the amount of lovastatin in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your dose of lovastatin.

Oral Contraceptives
Exenatide can slow the movement of medications through the digestive tract, and this may make some oral contraceptives (birth control pills) less effective. To avoid this problem, take your birth control pill at least one hour before an exenatide injection.

Warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven)
In clinical studies, exenatide did not have an effect on the INR (a test used to measure how well blood clots) in people taking warfarin, indicating that warfarin does not interact with exenatide. However, there have been a few reports of exenatide causing an increased INR (and sometimes bleeding) in people taking warfarin. Your heatlhcare provider may want to monitor your INR more frequently when starting or stopping exenatide.
