Linagliptin Drug Information

Available by prescription only, linagliptin (TradjentaTM) is approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults. This medicine works by increasing insulin levels after meals and decreasing glucose (sugar) production by the liver.

Before using linagliptin, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any other drugs you are taking and any other medical conditions you may have. For instance, this medicine may not be the best choice for people with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

The standard recommended dosage of linagliptin is one 5-mg tablet taken once daily. Although most people tolerate the drug well, side effects can occur and may include a sore throat and a runny or stuffy nose.
