Click on an icon to view.Alogliptin and pioglitazone has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking the drug were carefully documented and compared to those that occurred in a similar group of people taking a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active ingredients) or the individual components of the drug alone. As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the placebo or the other medicines.
In these studies, the most common alogliptin and pioglitazone side effects included:
- A runny or stuffy nose and sore throat -- in up to 4.9 percent of people
- Back pain -- up to 4.2 percent
- Upper respiratory tract infection, such as the common cold -- up to 4.1 percent.
You may experience some or none of the side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have problems with a medicine that you have never tried.
Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any adverse reactions while using the drug or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect of alogliptin and pioglitazone, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
